Ready for Comments!

All Sixth Graders have been blogging and doing amazingly well! The first goal for each student is to have two posts finished.

The first post was a Free Choice. This means it was a topic of their own choice to get some words on the page. Lots of great different ideas!

The second post was a Book Review. Look for a category in the side bar of "My Books", "Book Review", or something similar. This is the category that we'll keep adding to as we continue reading. Besides adding a category, there should also be a picture of the book cover. This required using the "Add Media" function and choosing alignment and size of image.

Love to read, love to write, and we'd all love to have your comments of quality!

2023-24 Well Underway!

This has been an awesome start to the year 2023-24. There are three Sixth Grade classes so that means a new plan of action! Each group has a rotation of three classes so they’ll be in Media Lab every third week. We have outstanding current and NEW students, too! (I do have a heart for new students since I moved many times growing up and know how it is to be new!) A big WELCOME to all EAGLES!

The first quarter ends this week. Wow, time flies! We’ve gotten beginning-of-year assessments in, started Secondary Edutyping, had a Class Blog intro, currently working on customizing our sites and writing first posts. Now we’ll add in focusing some time on Digital Citizenship this month of October. Oh, and did I mention one of the best uses of our time…READING! It’s the best way to start class time – reading, book checkout, book talks, and now with the blogs started we will be making a category for our Reading Responses and Book Reflections, too.

HOCO next week! Observing Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, Tues – Fri Special Dress Days. Friday Parade and Pep Rally and Friday night lights game time! GO EAGLES!

God bless our 2023-2024 school year! Prayers for a year of soaring success, friendships, and growth!

See you in the Media Lab!

Its’ a Wrap!

As a final post from 6B 2023, the students are interviewing a classmate with questions & answers to reflect on the year.

Questions such as:

  • When you think back on the whole Sixth Grade year, what were some highlights? Describe those situations. (Think about highlights from home, classrooms, friends, events, different parts of your school day, etc. What were some special memories?
  • Did you have any challenges? Explain what one was and what came of it.
  • Now that the year is nearly over, If you could do something differently, what would it be? (Maybe this advice will help someone next year!)
  • Tell about some things that are on your mind now for summer and for Seventh Grade. How are you feeling about those things?
  • Share a positive send off note to others reading your blog!

2023!

Happy New Year, everyone! What a great way it is to start the year with BLOGGING!

The 6A and 6B classes will get their blogs set up and will start rolling out their thoughts on their blog page.

Blogging is a creative way to get information, ideas, reflection, comments, questions, and answers published to share with others. Our blogs will make up a great digital portfolio for the second semester this school year, too.

See you soon in the blog pages! We welcome your comments any time!

About the Teacher

Hello! I’m Mrs. Peterson and am excited for this new role that I’ve entered this year. I’ve been a classroom teacher for many years. I reached my 25 year milestone last year at POP! What started in the Preschool department led to Fourth Grade which now has led me to MEDIA LAB!

My love of literature, language arts, and technology are a great combination for learning in the lab. I feel it’s ultimately important for all to share learning in order to build a strong learning community together.

Sharing learning can look so many different ways: speaking, writing, journaling, blogging, drawing, and using technology platforms as well as other creative options. This is a list that could go on and on!

Incorporating the Bible and Christian faith are the building blocks for all learning and living life out loud. I love that daily life at POP is God-centered. We will build each other up and encourage one another in love. (1 Thes. 5:11) We are ROOTED in Him (Col. 2:7; 2020-21 school theme) and FEARLESS (Deut. 31:8; 2021-22 school theme!) because Christ is with us always.

Please feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to the year together with KP – Grade 6 students and families!

About the Lab

What’s the Media Lab?

It’s a new space at POP where there will be books, technology, classroom work, extended learning, and special events taking place.

It’s a new space for all of POP to use! There are regularly scheduled classes for KP – Grade 6 (library checkout too!).

It’s a combination of library and computer lab. It’s using media in a combination of creative ways to enhance learning.

It’s a place to read, imagine, and discover. Stay curious and use your gifts to soar!

God bless the school year and all that we do!
